McInnes Wilson Lawyers has acted for longstanding client, Pikos Group, in the high-profile sale of the heritage-listed "Goldicott House".

The $17 million sale of 1.2 hectares of freehold land, including the Goldicott House and its outbuildings, was made to a subsidiary of the Queensland private school, Brisbane Boys' College.

This sale comes off the back of a development plan rejected by Brisbane City Council in 2018. The initial proposal was to subdivide the land and demolish a weatherboard building known as the music room, where former Powderfinger member, Bernard Fanning, grew his musical talent.

Asides from the Council, locals also opposed the project for heritage reasons. Built in 1885, Goldicott House is considered a key part of Brisbane's history. The heritage-listed site has been called a "revolutionary innovation in construction", being the first poured concrete house built in Brisbane.

McInnes Wilson Lawyers advised Pikos Group on all aspects of the transaction. In fact, the firm also advised on the original acquisition of the property, which included:

  • Undertaking due diligence;
  • Contract negotiations; and
  • Completion of the acquisition.

McInnes Wilson Lawyers have a wealth of experience assisting clients with property matters in both the commercial and residential sectors. The Real Estate and Projects team works with other areas of the firm to ensure that clients are covered across all areas of the sale, lease or purchase.  The firm’s Real Estate and Projects team for this matter was led by Principal Brian Schech with assistance from Associate Alex Fung.
