NDIA
Commonwealth compensation
Client problem
The NDIA required assistance in its establishment of key functions and operation.
outcome achieved
Yas assisted in establishing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) by providing complex and strategic advice to the Compensation Recoveries Branch and other internal stakeholders. He also developed and delivered its training, manuals, standard operating procedures, policies and advised key stakeholders on the operation of the NDIS Act and complex legal issues.
Commonwealth Government Agency
administrative law and governance
Client problem
Yas' client required assistance on the interpretation of its governing Act and Regulations.
outcome achieved
Yas provided logical and straightforward statutory interpretation and administrative law advice on the operation of the governing Act and how it interacted with the Agency's functions and operations. As a result of the advice and following meetings with key stakeholders, he assisted in redrafting significant operational and policy materials for the Agency. Yas assisted the Agency throughout the whole lifecycle of the project through its legal implications, operational impacts, and through to practical implementation.
Self-Insurer
commonwealth workers' compensation
Client problem
Yas' client was involved in multiple claims for separate injuries to the worker's spine; both knees and both shoulders. The claim was very complex, as there were overlapping injuries, but the cause of those injuries were entirely separate.
outcome achieved
Yas led an extensive investigation into the matter, considered the self-insurer's liability and provided a solid defence. The matter proceeded through the pre-hearing stages and, through considerable negotiations, led to a favourable settlement of all claims.
