December 2, 2013

Welcome to the final edition of the Legal Link for the 2013 year.

It’s been a fast-paced year for many with Christmas springing up on us far quicker than expected. Where did the last 12 months go?

To cap off the year our team have put together a broad range of articles which I hope will be of interest to you. Rebecca Wilson and Terry McCormick address the seven common mistakes people make when involved in a motor vehicle accident. Jack Fairweather discusses a very relevant topic in today’s society regarding volunteers and their liability. Leeha James explores the changes to the Workers Compensation scheme and how it impacts on injured workers. Finally, we have Amy Park who has prepared an article on who can and can’t be a self managed superannuation fund trustee.

This month in “Spotlight on the Community” we focus on Bicycle Queensland, a non-profit cycling advocacy group with some 17,000 members. This worthy organisation is a strong advocate for cyclists in Queensland and help encourage governments at all levels set in place facilities, infrastructure and policy initiatives to encourage safe and regular cycling in Queensland. Members receive important insurance cover, a monthly cycling magazine and many other valuable benefits (including a voice when needed). I strongly encourage any cyclist (whether infrequent, a day-to-day regular or a member of the lycra army) to become a member and take advantage of all the great benefits on offer.

On behalf of the team at McInnes Wilson Lawyers I wish you and your families a safe and merry Christmas and look forward to what we hope will be a prosperous 2014 for all.

Chris McManus
