McInnes Wilson Lawyers extend their congratulations to Lisa Oldham, Solicitor, for her outstanding achievement in winning the 2014 Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year award.

The award is conferred by the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) and recognises the professional achievements of outstanding young lawyers in Queensland. We are informed that a total of 17 nominations for the various awards were received, with a shortlist of 3 nominees selected for the Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year award from whom Lisa was selected for the conferral of the award.

The calibre of the shortlisted candidates was outstanding, with significant efforts and accomplishments by all. In this light, Lisa’s achievements in her first 5 years of practice are recognised as extraordinary.

Lisa was first employed at McInnes Wilson in November 2007 as an enthusiastic law clerk. Since then, Lisa has grown into her current role as a solicitor working in the field of Education, Employment and Industrial Relations. In the course of her work, Lisa has demonstrated her extensive skills and capabilities in a number of significant matters including:

(a) The review, redrafting, and revising of an Employer Organisation’s Industrial Rules;

(b) A comprehensive review of a school systems funding obligations;

(c) Advising organisations involved in the Royal Commission in Response to Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse;

(d) Assisting workplaces to develop Workplace Conduct Policies;

(e) Assisting workplaces to develop parental leave, return to work, and flexible working arrangements policies and procedures.

In addition to her client based work, Lisa became the firm’s first Pro Bono Co-ordinator in August 2011. As a result of Lisa’s efforts, over the following 3 years the Pro Bono Program has flourished to the benefit of many pro-bono clients who may not otherwise have had access to legal assistance. A mentor to law graduates, Lisa continues to be generous with her time to assist both her community and her work colleagues.

Once again we congratulate Lisa and thank her for her ongoing contributions to the firm, the legal profession, and the community.
