McInnes Wilson Lawyers is proud to have assisted Brisbane-based charity, Someone Who Cares, to secure its first ever government funding grant.

About Someone Who Cares

Someone Who Cares is a public benevolent institution and registered charity with the Australian Not-for-profits and Charities Commission. The charity was established in 2006 by Mt Gravatt Bus Service proprietor, Del Cole, and is based at Underwood, south of Brisbane.

Someone Who Cares’ charitable activities include sourcing and donating second hand goods and equipment at no cost to people in need.

For example, the charity regularly receives donated hospital equipment and medical supplies which are distributed to people in need here in Queensland as well as in developing countries such as Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste.

How the charity's challenge was overcome by McInnes Wilson

One of the challenges in receiving bulk donations of equipment (such as large hospital beds) is how to transport them safely and efficiently to the charity's Underwood base for sorting and distribution to those in need.

In order to overcome this challenge, McInnes Wilson Lawyers assisted Someone Who Cares to secure funding of $25,698.32 under Round 116 of the Queensland Government's
Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This was the charity's first ever government funding grant.

With these funds, Someone Who Cares purchased a 2008 Mercedes Benz Atego truck which is now being put to good use to collect large donations throughout South East Queensland for distribution to people in need locally and overseas.

Nick Wilson of McInnes Wilson Lawyers said “Since 2022, we have had the privilege of acting for Someone Who Cares in a pro bono capacity. The efforts of Del Cole and her team of volunteers are helping to literally change lives, and it is a great honour for us to help towards that any way we can”.
