John is often described as an authentic lawyer with a strong dedication to results-driven outcomes. 

John is Principal of the firm's Insurance team, specialising in the field for almost 25 years. He has acted for insurers, employers and corporations, with a special emphasis on injury liability matters.

John regularly presents on current and anticipated challenges facing the insurance industry, particularly on indemnity and statutory construction issues. His mathematics and accounting background enables him to draw this numerical love in investigating significant economic loss disputes. Until 1997, he acted exclusively for claimants, applicants, and plaintiffs, providing him with a strong negotiation and forensic edge.

John looks for opportunity and leverage for his clients. He considers it important that clients understand and feel in control of the strategic development of each situation to achieve the most beneficial solution.

John's client faced exposure to a new portfolio of insurance claims not intended to be part of the underwriting model.

John successfully ran the case in the High Court Appeal after losses in both the District Court and the Court of Appeal. The outcome resulted in a substantial shift of exposures from Allianz and other clients alike. This particular case still remains a leading example of statutory construction and causation in scheme designs.

In the aftermath of a damaging event, John's client, a cleaning company, was advised that they were not insured, despite being covered as part of a franchise agreement. They also denied wrongdoing in relation to a claimed event.

John assisted the client in achieving an outcome whereby they were indemnified for the claim and recovered full costs.
